Push press
- Intermediate
- Barbell
Short leg dip and drive, lock out overhead
Muscles worked
- Primary:
- Shoulders
- Secondary:
- Triceps, Quads
How to do it
- With the bar on your shoulders, dip slightly at the knees keeping your torso vertical.
- Drive hard through your legs and use that momentum to press the bar overhead.
- Lock out, then lower the bar to your shoulders under control.
Common mistakes
- Dropping into a deep squat instead of a short dip.
- Pushing your hips back and tilting your torso.
Tips
- Moves more weight than the strict press and overloads the lowering.
- Soften your knees as the bar returns to absorb it.
