Push-ups (bodyweight)

  • Basic
  • Bodyweight

Rigid body, elbows at 45°, chest near the floor

Muscles worked

Primary:
Chest
Secondary:
Shoulders, Triceps

How to do it

  1. Hands a bit wider than your shoulders, body in a straight line from head to heels.
  2. Lower in 2s, elbows about 45° from your torso, until your chest nearly touches the floor.
  3. Push the floor to come back up without snapping your elbows straight.

Common mistakes

  • Letting your hips sag or piking them up (breaks the line).
  • Flaring elbows to 90° (stresses the shoulder).
  • Doing half reps.

Tips

  • If you have reps to spare, raise your feet on a bench for more difficulty.
  • Squeeze glutes and abs to keep the body rigid.
