Curtsy lunge

  • Intermediate
  • Bodyweight
  • Unilateral

Step back diagonally without rotating the hips

Muscles worked

Primary:
Glutes
Secondary:
Quads

How to do it

  1. Standing, step one leg diagonally behind the other, as in a curtsy.
  2. Lower by bending both knees with your torso upright.
  3. Push through the front leg to return.

Common mistakes

  • Rotating your hips towards the back leg.
  • Letting the front knee cave in.

Tips

  • Emphasises the gluteus medius, the side-stability muscle.
  • Keep the crossover moderate: the further back, the harder to control.
