High step-up
- Basic
- Box or step
- Unilateral
Whole foot on the box, rise without bouncing
Muscles worked
- Primary:
- Quads
- Secondary:
- Glutes
How to do it
- Place one whole foot on a box high enough to leave your thigh near horizontal.
- Drive up with that leg only, without pushing off the bottom foot.
- Lower under control, touching down with the toes first.
Common mistakes
- Pushing off with the floor foot.
- Letting your heel hang off the box.
Tips
- The higher the box, the more glute is involved.
- Go up slowly and down even slower: that's where the work is.
