Drive with the top leg, not the bottom one

Muscles worked

Primary:
Quads
Secondary:
Glutes

How to do it

  1. Place a whole foot on a stable box or bench.
  2. Drive through that leg to stand up to full extension.
  3. Lower under control until the rear foot lands.

Common mistakes

  • Pushing off with the bottom leg instead of the top one.
  • A box so high it forces momentum.

Tips

  • Keep the whole foot on the box.
  • Step down slowly with the same leg: the lowering counts too.

Variations

The same exercise with different equipment, grip or setup.
