Elbows above wrists; stop at the collarbone
Muscles worked
- Primary:
- Traps
- Secondary:
- Shoulders
How to do it
- Stand holding the weight in front with a slightly narrower-than-shoulder grip.
- Pull up driving the elbows high to chest/chin level.
- Lower under control.
Common mistakes
- Pulling too high and impinging the shoulder.
- Using a too-narrow grip.
- Pushing through shoulder pain: it is one of the most irritating lifts; swap it for lateral raises.
Tips
- Keep the elbows above the wrists.
- Do not pull above the collarbone if the shoulder bothers you.
