Bar close, neutral spine: push the floor away

How to do it

  1. Set the feet under the bar at hip width.
  2. With a flat back, push the floor and extend hips and knees together.
  3. Lock out at the top without hyperextending; lower under control.

Common mistakes

  • Rounding the back.
  • Pulling with the arms instead of pushing with the legs.

Tips

  • Keep the bar against the body.
  • Brace the core before pulling.
