Spanish squat

  • Intermediate
  • Resistance band

Vertical shins, upright torso

Muscles worked

Primary:
Quads

How to do it

  1. Loop a strong band behind your knees and anchor it to a sturdy post at knee height.
  2. Step back until the band is taut and sit down with vertical shins and an upright torso.
  3. Stand up by pushing the floor, without letting your knees travel forward.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the band slide down to your calves.
  • Leaning your torso forward.

Tips

  • With vertical shins it's usually well tolerated by sore knees.
  • Holding the bottom for 30-45 s works too.
