Chair dips

Shoulders down, elbows back as you lower

Muscles worked

Primary:
Triceps
Secondary:
Chest

How to do it

  1. Place two solid chairs shoulder-width apart and support yourself on your hands.
  2. Lower your body, bending your elbows backwards, until your shoulder reaches elbow height.
  3. Press back up.

Common mistakes

  • Going too deep and straining the shoulder.
  • Flaring your elbows out to the sides.

Tips

  • Check the chairs do not slide before you start.
  • Too hard? Put your feet on the floor with bent knees.
  • With your body suspended it is as hard as parallel-bar dips; bench dips (feet on the floor) are the easy version.
